Raspberry-Limeade Cake

Okay, So dinner went well last night! My cake turned out great!!!! As I expected, my husband wasn't a great fan, but my Mom LOVED it. It's a little more dense than a box mix, but I liked it. It's a great cake for the summer!!! My favorite part was the Cream Cheese-Limeade frosting. I hope that that cake was supposed to be a dense cake, if not I may have done something wrong. If any of you reading this have any tips for me I would love them!Well, next week is a fresh Orange cake and I'm REALLY excited about it! I'm taking my cake to work tomorrow so that they can judge my work. Wish me luck and you'll be hearing from me soon!

Baking my way through Paula's Best Desserts!!!!

So, I've decided to try something new. I've always LOVED to bake, but unfortunately it's usually a box mix recipe. Not that there is anything wrong with the box mixes(they sure have helped me out in a crisis), but I want to get better at REALLY baking. I guess you could say I fell in love with baking a couple of years ago when two of my co-workers and I did all four of the cake decorating classes at our local Micheal's! I loved it instantly. Now I make cakes for my Friends birthday's, anniversaries, even a rehearsal dinner one time! The only problem is I've been using the box mix and I feel like I am cheating. So, I was at my grandma's last week and she had just bought the Best Desserts Collector's issue by Paula Deen and everything looked so yummy. Now, I LOVE Paula Deen. Being from the south, I love the kind of recipes she has. It's what I grew up on! So, I came up with the bright idea that I would make every single dessert in the magazine, in order, once a week! I went to work and told my co-workers about it and they said I should blog about it and post pictures of my creations! So, here I am! My goal at the end of this experiment is to be a better HOMEMADE baker. No more Box mixes for me! Tonight my parents are coming over for dinner and I decided to try the first recipe today! It's a raspberry-Limeade cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese-limeade frosting! Now, my husband is not big on lime or lemon, but I told him I was going to make everything in the magazine whether it was something we usually like or not because we might just change our minds!!!!!! So, I've made the cake and so far everything is great. We haven't eaten it yet, but it looks just like the picture! I'll post the picture and tomorrow I will blog about how it tasted and how everyone liked it, because I sure hope they will!!!!!! Wish me luck! As Paula would say....Best Dishes!!!!!!
